James Richardson joins BT Sport as the face of European football and hosts the specialist show Sunday Night Football, featuring live coverage and expert opinion on action from across the continent.

James is best known as a former presenter of Channel 4’s Football Italia, having worked on the show for a decade between 1992 and 2002.

Since then he has worked as a presenter on numerous shows including BBC1’s Late Kick Off and UEFA Euro 2012 coverage, as well as ESPN’s coverage of live Italian football. He has also written for the Guardian and Daily Mail and is the host of the Guardian website’s Football Weekly podcast.
I do like AC Jimbo, but his indulgence of the insufferable Barry Glendenning on the Football Weekly podcast and the generally jaded pisstaking atmosphere he presides over makes that particular thing unlistenable.

Maybe I don't like AC Jimbo.

Anyway, never going to hear a word he says on BT so it's irrelevant.
Strange, I have a lot of time for Glendenning's brand of humour and general disdain for the likes of England's Brave John Terry & Frank Lampard and the direction that "big football's" going. Different strokes I suppose.

And I have no idea what you're on about Naebs. :ermm:

I liked it at first, but over time I've realised that's all he's got. He's purely cynical with nothing positive to add.

He hates the big clubs and their superstar players yet is dismissive and uninterested in the smaller clubs. The man has no footballing soul.

Agree he's overly cynical at times, but to be honest I think he just enjoys winding up people as well. He has a particularly good line in slagging off Scottish football, which I just about forgive him for because it's so obviously tongue in cheek.

I believe BG used to write about music for a living in a previous life and he appears to have lived a little. While someone like Zonal Marking's Michael Cox lives and breathes the game to a worrying extent and I know who I'd rather go for a pint with (if I ever did such a thing nowadays).

Have to say I enjoyed the end of last night's match. :haha:

Switched off the tv and said to the other half, "Can't wait to hear Mourinho's attempt to deflect attention from the result with some over the top pronouncement."

Wake up to "Chelsea's José Mourinho: my teams are victims of Uefa conspiracy" (hypocritical, contradictory bullsh#t is in bold):
Quote:

"this is my history with Uefa for a long, long time"

"I have a fantastic experience of playing with 10 men in Uefa matches," he said. "I have a great experience. So I could react. I could coach my players in a way where, even with 10 men, even very, very tired, they could compete and find an opportunity to score a goal. In the end of the game, with everybody absolutely tired, they gave absolutely everything. I think my experience of playing with 10 men gave us a hand."

"If you are in love with football, you don't kill a final with a second yellow card like this. You don't kill the final. There were many other yellow cards that the referee didn't give. There was a situation with Dante in front of me, with his first yellow card, and it was not given.

"A good English referee would have stopped the game and told Ramires: 'Look, you've not hurt anyone but you mustn't do that again.' Or tell the Bayern players: 'Don't dive. Don't try and provoke. Play a fair game.' If you ask me in pure terms, rule by rule, yes it was a second yellow card. But you don't do this every action in that way. But it's nothing new for me.

"I played two or three times with 10 men against Barça. I went to Inter and played a Champions League semi-final, one hour, with 10 men against Barcelona. I go to Real Madrid, I played again a Champions League semi-final with 10 men.

"Now I come back to Chelsea and played a Super Cup final with 10 men again, and go to analyse the actions and make your conclusions. I'm unlucky. Just that."

A rather good move for Bale, will be interesting to see if he keeps on getting better over next couple of years.

You and the smitten English press pack must be the only ones Findus! :smack:

Oh and it looks like Arsenal are actually going to sign a bona fide world class player in Özil. Mark me down as very surprised! :o

Ozil would be a truly Messiahesque capture for Arsenal, a brilliant piece of business if they pull it off. Real selling him, however....?

On Mourinho - c'monnn, free added entertainment! :banjmp:

Yep, it's not yet confirmed yet, so it's still squeeky bum time for the Arse fans.

Re Mourinho, I used to find him entertaining back in the day, but just find him tiresome now.

I like Mourinho, whether I like watching his team's play is an entirely different matter...

So out of all the premiership teams will that be Arsenal signing the best player? They certainly needed that, though it's possibly the position they need least. They definitely need more up front and in defence so will be interesting to see what other signings they make.

If Giroud can stay fit then I think Arsenal are OK up front. Another body would've been good though, the Demba Ba loan going through for example. If Ozil lights up the team and the Premiership then it can only be good new for attracting top class players in January and next summer.

Over the last few weeks, Liverpool, Everton and Spurs have done the most impressive pieces of business for me, which can only be good in terms of closing the gap between the top 3 and the rest. Man United have dropped the ball (almost) completely - paid 5million quid over Fellani's release clause, held onto a moody Rooney... BUT no Fabregas, no Alcantara, no Coentrao, no Ferrera, no Baines.

Agree, but find it bizarre that teams like Chelsea and Arsenal have such little cover for the out and out striker positions.

With Lukaku gone Chelsea have the far from prolific Torres, 32 year old Eto'o & the injury prone Demba Ba and Arsenal have Giroud, 20 year old Yaya Sanogo and Park Chu-Young & Bendtner (who scored 3 goals on loan between them last season)....

Suppose it's a symptom of the 4-2-3-1 formation meaning 1 central striker is the norm for most teams, it's probably difficult to keep 4 top class strikers in good form and happy when only one of them is playing regularly?

Even having two top class strikers on the books must be hard. Look at Real who've struggled to keep both Benzema and Higuin happy. Barca only really had Villa for a while and who have they got now?

Just read that Man U also missed out on Di Rossi, Khedira and Sneijder! :hit: The lure of England on the ebb for most top players now? Wonder if Ferguson would've had more success attracting these chaps.

Is Giroud top class though? Had a patchy first season, and he's started this season well, but is he going to be as good as the other top teams strikers? He will do well enough, but you'd have to say Arsenal are weaker there, which is why they tried to land Suarez.

Suppose he gets injured though, there's not a lot else in terms of options, Walcott (or at a stretch Podolski) sure, but then you're looking at untested Sanogo or *shudder Bentner!

Terrible period for Man United, loads of failed attempts to land players, and a last minute deal to secure a signing that wasn't near the top of their list. For 4 million more than if they bought him earlier.

I think he's as good a goal-scoring option as anyone outside of Van Persie (and Aguero if he refinds his Man City 1st season form). Giroud had an excellent end to last season, a very good pre-season, and now 3 in 3 so far this season. I like him a lot from what I've seen since he's finally settled. But yeah, he needs to stay fit and in form because the backup options are a bit limited.

Chelsea and Spurs in similar situations though, with Liverpool not far behind. Does Suarez even get to waltz back into the Liverpool side after Sturridge and Coutinho's budding partnership leading them to a perfect first three games? That'd be a good way to piss off the in-form Sturridge.
