I think it's the right call. Can't see many people confident he'll do well in the transfer window. I think they need a good clear out and new direction, and Moyes doesn't seem the man for the job.

Against good teams in the league, they've looked easily beaten.

Liverpool look like a solid Top 4 team, Chelsea and Man City will spend to stay there. Arsenal have been Top 4 for a while mostly and look good to hang in there, and Everton are progressing. One season would be bad enough, but two out of the CL would surely be a disaster they can't afford.

No need to panic, Ferguson will help pick once more.

Sir Alex Ferguson will play a key role in selecting David Moyes's replacement as Manchester United manager.

Moyes, who was hand-picked by Ferguson as his successor last year, was sacked on Tuesday after only 10 months in charge.

Ferguson will this time be sober during a selection process consisting of every Manchester United board member.

The board met after Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Everton to discuss the move to sack Moyes.

Ferguson and Manchester United legend Bobby Charlton are believed to have been part of those discussions.

Ryan Giggs will take care of the first team until a permanent appointment can be made, but the United veteran is not thought to be in the running for the job.

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal, Peter Houston and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti are reported to be the leading contenders to take over at Old Trafford.
