Catania* have an E600k bid rejected, according to Spence. And that, I think, puts Mr Russell officially in play.

(* Catania, south end of Sicily. Beautiful, unique, insular place. Not really comparable to east Glasgow, where I sincerely hope Mr Russell doesn't end up.)

Disappointingly low offer, but very exciting and flattering to Russell and teh club to be getting interest from a mid-table Serie A club.

And man, I would love to be offered a lucrative job in the south of Italy.

When Eggman hears of this do you think he might come in his pants?

Meh. Coming in ones pants ain't what it used to be.

600k Euros, eh? Just over 500k. Does that qualify as "derisory"?

Looks like an awesome city and area and climate, especially compared to the East End. I'd be creaming my pants if I were Ronny. Though it's paired with two of the dullest cities in the world in Phoenix and Ottawa.

Also, Auschwitz. While Dundee's twinned with Dubai and Orléans in France. So ... Er ....

Anyway, I guess it's one of those stalking horse stories that alert other bidders and get a sense of competitive auction going, which is much preferrable to the "blocking his dream move to Celtic" story we've seen so often.

So what's the reserve price? £1m?

I think it'd be a great move for Russell. We'll I'd love to move there for a year or two.

But think anything less than £1m would be seen as cheap, given other prices.

He wouldn't get a game. Catania are really good, and aren't far off a European spot.

I've only been to Catania once. It didn't seem much to write home about although the gothic (looks gothic anyway) is lovely. Got a bit pished in its piazza, which meant I was able to get a decent sleep since our hotel room was on the main road and noisy as f*ck from the traffic.

I'd say it's more east coast, middle. Messina (shitehouse) is to the north and Siracusa (great in parts, but you only go for the ancient settlements) to the south. I'd avoid Sicily on the whole. Agrigento is overrated, Palermo is bearable for about two days, and the only place I really liked was Cefalu'.

Anyway, Russell's not good enough for Catania. I'm staggered that they've been mentioned in connection with him.

If you do end up going, a tip: Catania isn't in the south of Sicily. :hat:

ZING!

So, more to the point, what makes you so certain Russell couldn't cut it at the not-quite-top level? Beyond your naturally sunny disposition, I mean.

The simple reason being, Mr Pot, that his performances against poor opposition haven't been good enough. For him to cut it at a club doing well in Serie A, he'd need to be putting in exceptional performances very often. The not-quite-top-level is still far above the really-quite-shit level of the SPL. Or do you think that teams like United, Inverness, St Johnstone etc would do anything else but get thumped against the likes of Cagliari, Palermo and Bologna etc?

I happen to watch matches from both leagues which I suspect is more than can be said for you. I wonder indeed if you watch matches from either league.
