Reports indicate we have signed Thistle pair Paul Paton and Chris Erskine on pre-contracts. Right back/central mid and central mid, Google suggests. Anyone have opinions? Because I don't.

McNamara knows them, and so has a good idea if they can cut it. Although many managers do that and it often fails (eg McCall and Samuel). But it does seem the safer option. Some will like that. Some will hate that. :banjmp:

I just hope these signings doesn't mean that Flood is on his way out of Tanny.

Sure will fit in well enough and do ok.

Right back is interesting, Watson seems to be a good option in that positon, but need some cover.

<prickishcommentalert>So these guys are either Left Backs, Centre Halves or Strikers?

Top work Jackie....oh....</prickishcommentalert>

Being serious though, Upside: they're obviously important players in a winning team that he knows well, Downside: that team plays in Div 1....

Or as the English would say curia advisari vult?
Aye, guess so.

Although neither is really applicable to this situation, as both would imply all necessary information had been made available and would now be considered, whereas it would seem we have virtually no information regarding these two players.

I was just being a smart arse but it didn't work out for me this time.

Paton's exit seems to be the regretted by Partick fans on Twitter, if that is worth anything.

Coward. I want some uninformed snap judgments that can be dragged up later to prove a person's ignorance about all things kickball.

I'll start.

Paton's Twitter suggests he's a bit of an argumentative flangetip. I predict, therefore, that he's the next Stuart Beedie.

Mac, meanwhile, is in the papers saying Erskine's a flair player. Given the level of flair visible in the lower leagues this makes me extremely nervous. I predict, therefore, that he's the next Jamie Buchan.

I predict that Paton will replace Watson, and Erskine will become a cheap benchwarmer. Like Ritchie Ryan has inexplicably become.

I've seen mixed reviews about both players, many raising doubts about their ability to make an impact in the SPL. They could well be being brought in as squad players, I suppose. I do question whether JacNamaroquai has properly scouted elsewhere before deciding on these two.

I just hope these signings doesn't mean that Flood is on his way out of Tanny.
I'd imagine Millar and Ryan will be off at season's end with Gardyne remaining purely as cover.
Which only leaves us with Willo, Rankin and Armstrong centrally.
I get the impression that Paton's now a sitting midfielder, which I feel we desperately need, in order to shield the centre-backs (see Ambrose's run for Celtic's third).
He'll also provide a bit of cover for the defence, with Tornstrand and, possibly McLean, leaving.
Presumably Erskine will be providing cover/a challenge to Gauld and, to a lesser extent, GMS.
If he's still here...

On your last point Reekie, does no-one else think it's strange that we've not heard any solid rumours of clubs sizing up offers for GMS? (I may have missed these....)

He's arguably the best prospect we've had in years.

Is it because he isn't the kind of player who employs the type of agent who spends their whole time agitating for a move/feeding stories to the papers? Because Rangers are skint? Or maybe he's just not that good???

Perhaps he's invisible, and we're all dreaming that he even plays for us? :ermm:

Hmm, in light of the Casalinuovo fiasco and the loss of the SPL sponsor that ST is bemoaning, you could be right.....
