Last edition will be printed soon.

Which seems inevitable. Maybe get it reinvented on web, mobiles and tablets and see what happens...

Although the Beano seems to be doing ok. Which is strange, as the Dandy was far superior...

You're having a laugh, the Dandy was a conservative borefest compared to the Beano!

Dennis the Menace, Roger the Dodger, Minnie the Minx, The Bash Street Kids, Calamity James, Ball Boy, Billy Whizz

v

Desperate Dan?

I was always quite partial to the Beezer, Colonel Blink and co B)

As a nipper I really liked Tom Paterson's style, which at the time was in the Beano more than the Dandy. But, really, whatever. If there's still room in the market for one printed comic, that's good.

Quality over quantity.

But don't forget cuddles and dimples.

Beano was too samey.

The Beano had Numbskulls, therefore being superior. I have to agree that the Dandy was pretty boring in comparison when I was a young aryan dreamboat.

Numbskulls was in the Beano? Clincher. Genius cartoon that inspired the young mind like no other until Buster Gonad came along.

I genuinely bought it just for The Numbskulls! I thought Dennis The Menace was a bit boring, if I wanted a genuine laugh about troublemaking I'd go for Oor Wullie every time. I hear nowdays he's helping old ladies with their messages and that?

Desperate Dan will join the Beano. Otherwise they'll have to remove the statue from opposite the Caird Hall.

Numbskulls was in Beezer, and its transfer was the comic book Mo Johnston of its day. There were many, myself included, who thought its Homunculus Greek Chorus shtick was a bit too obvious and lacking in personality for The Beano, which already had a much more rounded ensemble-cast strip in Bash Street Kids.

If you want to ruin a childhood memory, there's this. Personally, I liked Calamity James.

Awww, Naebs, noooooooo! :fisted:

Yeah, couldn've swore the Numbskulls was in the Beezer. Always thought it'd make an excellent scenario for a video game, though I suppose the idea has kinda been implemented/superseded with 'god' games.

Wasn't there an 8-bit-era game on the theme? Spectrum, probably, though Google finds nothing.

It does, however, remind that Thomas Edison was a believer of The Numbskull Hypothesis.

Quote:

Edison, in his later years, believed that memory involves sub-particles of matter like electrons that travel in space. Combining into colonies, these particles--or "little people" as Edison called them--lodge in people's brains and form intelligence. Edison believed that these little people of intelligence stay united after a person dies; they travel, eventually settling into another person (Conot 427). As such a person's intelligence or personality never dies.

Lots more here, in an article that's well worth a read for fans of high-functioning madness.

Yep, that's about ruined it - cheers Naebs! Och it was a fairly entertaining concept for a 7 year-old, including the tension and drama as the Numbskulls tried to resolve problems (before the guy pissed himself or headbutted a girl instead of kissing her etc.), and some slapstick outcomes. With a FREE Refresher Bar!! (issue 10p dearer).

As for Numbskulls in the Beezer, I think we're all showing our ages as the Beezer wasn't a weekly option for me and was only ever an annual...... which even then wasn't an option...... Corky the f*cking Cat :-/
