Absolutely gutted for Cav, very unlucky that with so many riders in it from a variety of Countries the other teams had no interest in chasing down the group that got away.

Still, he showed real class with his appreciative comments about how hard Stannard?, Froome, Wiggins and Millar worked to help him all day.

As for the empty seats, could be wrong but initial reports seemed to suggest they were un-ticketed seats? Which may suggest it was sponsors and their fat lazy clients who couldn't be arsed to get out of bed and actually use the free ticket they were given. :smack:
No, there were many thousands of empty seats at Wimbledon and at some of the other venues( (i.e. volleyball). Some of the tennis games were not even half full this afternoon.

They just didn't sell, is clearly what happened. These are for the first few days when qualifiers and minor sports would always struggle to sell. I'm sure it'll get fuller, like, but I don't see why they have to pretend. Just another part of the propaganda I'm afraid.

I was one of the 8,000 rattling around inside Hampden yesterday. With a full house it may have been a worthwhile experience but I'm afraid it had a kind of pre-season friendly kind of atmosphere combined with iron-fist security. Given half the crowd were Egyptian supporters I dread to think what kind of attendance they may have mustered had it been someone like Gabon or North Korea who came out of the hat.

Overall, a silly idea to stage the games here and I can only assume it was some kind of sop to try and get Scotland on board Team GB, which failed utterly.

Egypt were fairly tasty though.

Sounds like a lot of people have taken their kids to see the games at Hampden, which has got to be good thing at least? And it gets them used to seeing the national stadium more than half empty as Scottish football endures a long, slow lingering death in the years to come...

Hope you didn't miss Michael Jamieson's Silver medal swim last night Conan!

A genuinely thrilling performance and the type that should inspire thousands of kids all over Scotland to take up the sport.

How many publicly accessible swimming pools (and laning availability) in Dundee?

Facilities, facilities, facilities. Bit of a chicken and egg-er.

Talking of eggs, my money is on 'spousal pressure' ("Get aff that fcking internet, yer a faither noo!") over Eggman's recent extended hiatus from the site. Unless someone else here knows better...?

That's absolute pants for a 140,000 city, especially if we're talking about inspiring kids to take up swimming in large numbers. A modern, well-equipped pool/gym/gymnasium combo in every area of the city, I say.

Like this?

Repeat time 8 (or however many area of the city there are) and that's quite a price.

If the new one, and the other pools around dundee are full to capacity, then maybe build another one.

And no doubt we need better diving, gymnastics, judo, sailing, athletics, tennis, handball etc facilities too... But I don't really buy the inspiring aspect that much, get a slight medium-long term increase and they'll be doing well.

"The project follows a Scottish Swimming report in 2009 which found a need for more pools that were suitable for use as training centres for performance swimmers."

Yes, like that! :banjmp:

About them getting full to capacity, it's the chicken n egg thing I mentioned. Accessibility grows participation.

I missed the swimming. It probably clashed with me cheering for Uruguay in the football...

I saw it today and cringed everytime the commentator mispronounced his surname.

This women's judo is awfy exciting though, even if it does resemble a post-pub fight where everyone is too drunk to throw punches and end up grappling and rolling about the floor.

Superb day for Team GB there! Ennis and Farah's performances in particular were brilliant to watch, and what a bloody lift that crowd must've given them

Must admit to getting a little emotional when Murray won gold.

Probably cos I knew he would be unhappy when he heard the football result at Tannadice.

Morrisey is not a fan of the olympics he is comparing it to nazi germany with the jingoism. Maybe slightly ott but he has a point.
