Fuchsache. It's painful.

Anyone else feeling the need to turn off the BBC (both tv and website) at the moment? Their coverage of royal events is always terrifyingly North Korean, but it's gone into overdrive lately. They focus on the paltry crowds coming out to see the old dear, making sure they're right in among them so that we can't see that there's only a few dozen at any given site where there aren't freebies being handed out. And usually pensioners, schoolkids and the terminally biffed. There's something like 10000 street parties in the UK which sounds a lot until you realise that even wildly high estimates of that amount mean a few million will be partying like it's 1953 while the other 55 million+ of us just do. not. give. a. shit.

All* that could save the whole shebang is if Tom Jones, Macca and Elton do a rousing version of the Pistols' 'God Save the Queen', replete with dripping sarcasm, during the diamond party or whatever shite it's called. Remember to hoist those thumbs aloft while doing the Sid bit, Sir Paul. Smacking up on stage optional**.

On the plus side, it's meant to be really wretched weather in London this weekend. Cold, wet and miserable. Lap it up you royalist scum.

*Short of a bloody revolution by the end of the weekend of course.

**best place for that is a public library, lest we forget.

Would both be ideal things to not have on the BBC but to have on Channel 5 or something.

So does that mean the party at your house tonight is off?

I didn't know it was the Jubilee this weekend, I thought we were celebrating the Battle of the Boyne?

This is the age of "Keep Calm And Carry On" Gordon. It's not going to happen.

I went to a street party yesterday held by my sister and her neighbours. It was jolly good fun for all the kids. Lots of food and drink, face-painting, bouncy castles. Peppa Pig even made an appearance*.

It didn't occur to me until a couple of hours before the party that it had anything to do with the Jubilee and references to the Queen were entirely absent. There were a couple of union jacks kicking about but really it was just an excuse for a party. Ivan Jr. got his face painted like a tiger and ran himself into the ground by five o'clock.

Cheers Liz you old boot.

* Possibly not the Peppa Pig.

How much has this Royal largesse cost? At a time when the UK is supposed to be in a period of austerity and the less well off are being royally shafted.

We are all in this together…yeah right

loadsastuff donated apparently-particularly the boats since we can't quite afford to do the "lets review the Grand Fleet at Spithead today, Phillip" any more.

But thankfully the weather reigned over their parade and it was all a bit a of damp squib in more ways than one. I think quite a few areas were having gala day festivities anyway so I dare say it didn't do anyone any real harm other than the reputations of a few news commentators who were OTT brown-nosing. But you didn't really have to watch it. I certainly didn't _ I just did a bit of catch up TV and 40 winks.

In times of Austerity the British government does what it does best: spends millions on a rich sponger and tells the world it is bringing a feel good glow to the country.

How many jubilees does she need. It is a good time to switch off the tv and read a book or watch a DVD.

absolutely-anyone who throws a sickie at the prospect of watching Sir Cliff Richard and Queen Elton John parading their polyfilla is worth a grudging tip of the hat. Bladder infection ? P1ssed off more like... :lager:
