I know that Chesil Beach is far away in time. Anyway, fine song, of my (our) era, that one. Frightening to think it was 32 years ago. Sounds ages ago when you say that. Because it is.

Most likely to be Ann Widdecombe

I have to disagree there, for me the old version is better. This just encapsulates what's happened to music, everything is a re-release or a cover sapped of all it's energy. This song doesn't make sense that slow, Echo Beach has somehow turned from an optimistic desire to some sullen, forgotten memory. Depressing. The modern music scene needs a kick up its self-pitying arse. |

True.
Cockwash. Anyone buy the 2002 remix album with 13 remixes of Echo Beach, by KLF, Watershell, Gabriel Le Mar, Ostinato etc ... No? Well you can still get it here. There are worse ways to spend £5.99. |

I didn't say the new one was better, I said it was "ace". As was the original. |

The disagreement was that I think the new one's shite. I blame it on the old c*nts who run the commercial biz. They've had enough cos they got the rock, the punk, the funk, the early 90s dance and want to get something else as mainstream, meanwhile us young guns who didn't get that stuff fancy something with some energy. |

Y'know, I'm beginning to get quite sceptical that you really are Ann. Not sure she's capable of feigning such hip talk as that. Hip replacement talk, yes, but... |

Well, I know what that song was doing at the stroke of midnight, Hogmanay 2001 (going into 2002). It was getting played at a dinner dance I was at in Tunisia, that's what. Weird doesn't begin to describe it. Oh, and the guy I was sat next to was not only from Dundee but a bluenose. An horrific, environmental-bubble hell of a night. |

What about no-hit wonders? I'm looking for someone whose fame is out of whack with their actual sales figures. It has to be someone who's known principally as a recording artist (so, not Naomi Campbell). Long-term sales are included (so, not Velvet Underground) as are compilations (so, not Bob Marley) and compilation appearances (so, not The Ramones). I want a list of people everyone's heard of, but no-one's actually paid to hear their music. For example, I've been trying to work out why Paloma Faith is famous. Highest charting single is a UK number 7, with all the others in double figures. Nothing against the lady, but who is she? |
