At what point did I write the article?
I'm asking what your definition is, Skellie. Just because the court uses that for its meaning of insanity here (according to one journalist who's asked one "qualified psychiatrist" of course), that doesn't mean everyone does, or should.

I asked further up the thread: what does insanity mean to you? I'm not being facetious, and haven't insulted you so far, so don't get on your high horse :hat:
There are far more qualified people than myself to judge sanity, but I agree that isn't the point.

I'm making the judgement, as I said earlier, based on the vulnerability shown by his compliance with requests from the court to respect the families of the people he had slaughtered. He had cited a motive based on the hatred of the these 'brainwashed' socialists, then drops his fascist salute after reasoning by the authorities. He also goes back and forth between smiling, which seems manic, and crying, which he tried to disguise by stating that the footage was "beautiful".

For those reasons, I think he's insane. But as we've mentioned before, my opinion is just that and is of no consequence.

Okay, so to you, insanity is based on a lack of remorse, delusion, inconsistency, and a bit of rocking to-and-fro like Rain Man?

Perhaps some variety of definitions of 'sane' and 'insane' would be useful at this juncture. We might then be better able to expertly place ABB, and other historical figures, on the sanity continuum.

Even if he isn't insane, and is just a very bad man, I wouldn't want to know his motivations. I don't get why books on serial killers are so popular.

I would love to read a thread consisting entirely of Skellie and His Eggscellency debating this.

So what is it, then? Or is this going to be another case of you beating around the bush and refusing to stipulate something clearly?

No it's going to be another case of you reading a post and making a disingenuous summary for the purposes of argument. So in the knowledge of that;

More like you're going to chickenshit it because you want to sit on the fence and pretend you didn't say something that will end up embarrassing you. Like in the Pope thread. And the racism one.

The BBC have put a useful guide to misconceptions about insanity which may aid your work, chaps.

Now get to it - I'm relying on you so that I can decide who is insane and who is the other thing.

f*ck the BBC. The amount of stuff they get wrong on subjects I know about* makes me think that they get loads of stuff wrong on shit I don't know about.

* Eg, that Franco Baresi won two UEFA Cups playing for Milan. And that Bayern beat Real 4-0 in the 1987 European Cup.

And bringing in that shitey homepage design also makes me think they don't have a clue what they're on about.

And of course, Hansen and Lawrenson on Match of the Day. Garth Crooks.

Garth Crooks.

Edit: Having just read the page, I'm even more inclined to dismiss the BBC. What an incomplete, uneducating piece. Still, you get what you pay for, I guess.

:o

That's Eggy at 31% along the Sanity Continuum. A good benchmark to start with.

Hm ... almost as if it's the product of more than one person.

Korzybski did most to give us a scientific definition of sanity as part of his life work on semantics. Therefore, I'm classing this thread as an issue of semantics (AKA Eggman's Law) and requesting its immediate closure.

Indeed. The product of many people who often don't seem to know very basic stuff in fields they're writing about.
