It is, though (CF: PSH vs FM) so I'm a bit lost as to how to continue this argument. Perhaps it'd help to do a compare and contrast of the Fargo and Capote posters? |

Did you even look at your own link there? Apart from Capote, nearly all Hoffman's nominations are for 'supporting actor' (Doubt/Charlie Wilson's War/Magnolia/MI 3/Almost Famous/Happiness/Flawless/Punch Drunk Love) or ensemble cast (Some more). He got the nod for lead in Before the Devil Knows Your Dead and The Savages from a couple of awards bodies, but that's way outnumbered by supporting nods, as we can see from the list above. He's primarily cast as support. As is McDormand. Look, I'm not quibbling with the general idea that Hollywood is nasty to women and tends toward attractive women getting roles. Of course it - and other media - does. But your original idea that there are only attractive women in Hollywood films is taking it to silly extremes. |

This has got too of topic. What have Keanu Reeves and Uma Thurman got to do with the game on saturday. Does Uma Thurman know anything about football. I had a look at the title of this thread and it is still Rangers v Dundee United. Rangers will be without Naismith who is out for the rest of the season because of a crazy challenge in the Aberdeen match which he should have got booked for. We could do with a decent ref on saturday at least McCurrie has retired now. |

Pah, get with the program Goags. We're discussing the relative merits of the Truman Capote impersonator and Marge Gunderson's acting careers as metaphors for United and Rangers. Naebs is trying to cast the Hoffster as Rangers and Fran as United, while I'm having none of it. I say the Huns are more like Tom Cruise: over rated yet inexplicably successful, with secret societies behind the scenes and nasty rumours flying about them... Selection bias I guess. I glanced at PSH's gong nominations as lead actor (Capote, Devil Knows, Owning Mahowny, The Savages, Flawless, Boat That Rocked (FFS)) against FM's as lead actress (Fargo, Laurel Canyon, Burn After Reading) and saw former outnumbering latter. But perhaps you're right, and Frances McDormand's outlook hasn't been blighted overly by her average vista. To retread and perhaps clarify where we've been, my argument was as follows: the market for actresses is so weighted towards a homogeneous attractiveness that our placebo for "unattractive" becomes "unusual". That's not a overly helpful to anyone, and I'm not wildly keen on seeing it perpetuated. Observations about the gender disparity were meant as an aside rather than core to the thesis. And before anyone notes it: yes, I do have sand in my vagina. Still nil nil. |

Well, of the five guys at my work I've asked, none of them rate them as anything special at all. In terms of your own individual taste, who would you put them on a par with? Angelina Jolie? Halle Berry? Jessica Alba? Megan Fox? Natalie Portman? Charlize Theron? Then in terms of what you think the general public thinks, who would the public put them on a par with? |

Even more mental! When you're talking about economics (about which I have not a f*cking clue), you sound like you talk a good game. But now I'm beginning to wonder... |

Oh FFS. Of all photos of all women there are, you'd choose this one to pound your meat to? Even Kathy f*cking Burke could probably be airbrushed/made-up and appropriately angled to make her look shaggable. Okay, maybe not Kathy Burke, but you get the point. |

Says the guy who dares mention the name 'Megan Fox' in the same breath as Portman, Berry and Alba. You disgust me, Eggs! And thank you, Homer

Theres too much meat getting beat on this thread...and not even a mention of Paltrow or Kristen Stewart from Twilight Poor show. Burke and Swank are the meat and bones of this thread ...it's time for some proper beef |

Apparently Kenneth is back, but no word on Dillon. I'd imagine Kenneth will be straight back in the team, but not sure if we'll chance 442 up front, so could be Daly lonely again. |

I believe that this is gonna be a 2-1 win for Utd as long as they keep their nerve and stop making so many errors. If they could stop the defensive mistakes and stop missing all the gilt edge chances. They're playin alright. They knocked the ball about nicely at Hibs all those weeks ago, played them off the park, then lost two shitty goals in the space of 2 minutes. That was the start of their descent into soccer hell. Defeats followed. Needless defeats. Huns ain't no great shakes, their best player is out + the orc McCulloch is out, they will have to reshuffle the pack. Tomorrow is a great chance for Utd turn up at Castle Greyskull and knock the ball about, get them scared and launch wave after wave of attack. With the hearts FC going down the drain tomorrow is a turning point. A chance for Utd to say ''SPL, this this is how we f*ckin roll, clear a way for 4th place'' before adopting a more humble approach post match ''SPL, we are a young team but you can see a flow in our play, this win at Ibrox has done us the world of good, we will take fourth place in this league before Xmas'' . They won't say that, they'll let the football do the talking. But if football could talk, it would say those words. And if the unthinkable happens and Utd don't win i will come and edit this post with something more apt. Just hope it doesn't have to come to that |
