There was an interesting story in the Belfast Telegraph yesterday. Not sure if this has been widely reported. I wonder where this story came from?

No smoke without fire

Thoughts?

I feel no particular allegiance for or against Houston, he's done ok overall. I also have no particular feelings towards or against O'Neill.

To summarize, I don't care if this happens or not, other than that the monetary consequences.

I'd be interested to know if Houston himself thinks that he's 'been found out' as he wasn't too keen on being the top man in the immediate post-Levein period.

The story got some airing from Fatso Traynor and his sidekick Grant last night. So we have to assume that Houston is the next in the "media pressure " merry go round. Since he's brought it on himself I can't really say its unfair. ST will decide, I suspect by Christmas(or maybe post Sheep New Year game), whether the man has to go, so anyone new can do some window dealing but Houston would have a case for feeling hard done by if that happened given that he's lost so many of his players and delivered a trophy but you can't mix that up with us falling out of the SPL (copyright: I Golac) and sometimes I think that he's just waiting for Levein to find somewhere else more lucrative before he ups sticks and joins him.

I do think that ST will soon call time on the Scotland job share though. I'd want my manager 100% focussed on keeping us in the SPL and whenever Houston has got back from Scotland duty we've tended to have a terrible Saturday.

Absurd, if only for the reason that O'Neill (and removing Houston and his staff) would take money United aren't winning to spend.

It would seem a bit premature. Houston hasn't really has much pressue put his way, with the squad changes, it's understandable to be a bit lower than last year. Unless there's something bhind the scenes, and there does seem to be a few things like the Allan situation that is a bit unclear, then I can't see why we'd spend a lot of money paying off houston to bring in someone else.

And before someone mentions Jefferies, no. Just no.

This is a bizarre one.

Sack a manager with decent-ish SPL pedigree, plus silverware, for a relatively untested manager with no SPL experience.

'No brainer' springs to mind...

As well as 'havers'.

To be honest, I thought this was bollocks too. I do assume, however, that this paper did not pluck the story from thin air, so I wonder where they got this from?

Our attack looks decent - better than most SPL sides.
Our defence is really poor. Of our 11 games so far, we've conceded at least 3 in 5 games. How can we win games with a defence that poor???

Houston will stay and will resign in mid to late December if the recent results continue.

Most smoke's without fire, if you think about it.

I'm choosing (entirely arbitrarily) to pin the start of United's slide at February 2010, when Hegarty was appointed first-team coach. If there really has to be a human sacrifice to the Great Gods of Sporting Fortune, what about him?

Very true. Our once competent defence has floundered, as have many previous defences under Cap'n Heggo, on the rocks of the simple crossed ball.

Sounds fair to me.

But he's a legend so it canny be his fault. What about that jambo big fat baldy prick Housty? He never played for us, and even played against us, and maybe even played well against us once, so it must be him.
