I see Naismith is taking over the Miller role, having missed three very easy chances already.

It's a pretty defensive set up for a game you have to win against a third rate nation, but Pat Nevin disagrees so what do I know? I don't honestly understand why teams think they can play one up front when it so very rarely works for all but the top sides: it just forces virtually every game into a midfield battle.

Plenty of chances though, should see through comfortably if we keep on creating the same number.

I agree in parts, and can't work Scotland out. Some of the play today was very good. Encouraging. It was how a team should play. Lots of one touch passing and movement, even if it didn't work that well often.

Liechtenstein aren't that bad compared to Scotland's level. They can make things tough for most third and below ranking teams.

I'm caught between thinking 'we have better players than needing 1 only up front', and looking at 'whatever is most likely to win'.

Today was much better than anything before under Levein. Decent.
Sometimes good.

It was only 1-0, but it was a much better single goal win than the 2-1 win last year. If Levein gets hammered when it's bad, then he should be credited when it's good.

Improvement.

Painfully boring game tonight, bumbling passes and constant long balls. Turned off after the Gary/Steven-Mikhail Gorbachev/chov-Black-Delia-Granny Smith goal. Theres a reason why we shouldn't reach any major tournament.

If you turned off a third of the way through there's no reason to post an opinion.

I see, because witnessing 30 minutes of football isn't enough to form an opinion. Must. Try. Harder.

Don't get rattled Skel. I'm afraid mr eggie isn't in a terribly jovial mood this evening. Sounds like he must have watched the Liechstenstein game from start to finish. :hit:

From reading these you'd think we played like a bunch of school kids and only won in the last minute of seven added minutes....that was last year.

Plenty of chances tonight we just did not take them. Kept the ball well and pressed high up the park making them turn the ball over. All that was lacking was a better choice of ball in the final third and someone who could finish the chances that cropped up.

Does that mean we are good enough to go through? Probably not, but that was 10 times better than Hampden last year, and anyone who watched all of both games and disagrees clearly knows fck all about fck all.

deserved win and if we needed more than a goal then i think we would have got it. in 2nd place going into the final game which really is as much as we could have hoped for following the draw against the czechs.

still outsiders, but we need two games to go against us not to make the play offs, its definitely do-able.

i believe!

Like Skeletor I only watched a third of the game, though that wasn't by choice. Also bear in mind that's the first time I've seen Scotland in several years. And, with all those caveats in place, I thought they were okay. A solid enough club side grinding out a win in one of those 'potential banana skin' cup ties.

I'd guess, during games that matter, the roles would be reversed. Scotland would be set up to counter attack, stuffing the midfield to break up play and planting the ball over the top for a lone runner at every opportunity. It looks like a team capable of that, even when that wasn't what was called for. There's a difficult game on Tuesday, right? I wouldn't write off their chances of stealing something.

Also, Levein's beard's looking much more international class now it's gone salt and pepper.

Did we win? I was on holiday and didn't give this a second thought. It was bliss. To be not in Scotland during an international weekend was very heaven.
