--------------- Pernis ------------------

---------------- Dillon ------------------

Watson - Kenneth - Gunning - Dixon

---- Flood --- Rankin --- Russell -----

------------- Swanson -----------------
---------------- Daly -------------------
Chrismas tree. Dundee under Jim Duffy. For f*ck sake.
It's a f*cking arrow! :fisted:

It worked for France in Euro 98, Ancelotti's Milan at times, and brought Flamengo their first title in two decades recently. Besides, who doesn't want to see Big Bad Jon brandishing a wand while wearing a tu-tu? ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Very narrow, Reeks, but also very Barca of last year. Swanson as the false 9? Flood as Xabi, Ranking as Iniesta. Gunning as Pique??!?!?!??! Actually, that would be Dillon, the Irish Beckenbauer.

I'm not even drunk. :hit:
More, I'd argue, like the diamond formation under Alex Smith. Swanson as Fatty Miller, Rankin as David Hannah and Flood as Craig Easton. Watson and Dixon would be Jamie McCunnie and Hasney Aljofree, Dillon would be Griffin and Daly would be Derek Lilley.

I am quite drunk, though that's no excuse.
Waaaaaaaaghhh!!! Aljofree...Hannah...McCunnie....Make it stop!

Pretty sure Golac got the best out of Badger when he introduced the diamond formation back in 1993?

I could very easily have got that wrong though... :ermm:

I'd suggest a season we almost got relegated in and one we did get relegated in are poor examples of mangerial masterstrokes.

Ivan is right about Daly pointless playing him up on his own. Not mobile enough.

The problem is very much the same as the start of last season - three central midfielders into a flat 4 in midfield doesn't bloody work.

I'd pitch Robbo to the bench and just tell Flood to stay in centre midfield, he is never a wide player.

Dillon needs to be back in CH as well...which one of Gunning or Kenneth you bench is debatable.

Also I'd play Allan regardless of his choice of contract. Let Utd get the benefit from him when we can.

Ach, but when Golac's diamond shaped revolution worked it was a thing of beauty Vex!

Season long success is normally a bit more conventionally shaped as you say... :piper:

swanson further forward than russell ^o)

i've never been a fan of sweeper systems, and a sweeper plus a back four is just too negative for me.

regarding the wing back suggestion, i'd say watson and dixon are out and out full backs. wouldnt have either of them as wing backs.

I'd say from what im hearing though, its not the system that isnt working, its the fact that the players simply arent playing well enough. im not a fan of changing systems as a result of that, i think that only adds confusion into the mix. these players have had a lot of success playing in the shape we are using so for me shifting that isnt the solution.

Edit- whoops, didnt see there was a 3rd page. i dont think we need to resort to one up top. means when we have posession theres a lack of an "out" ball. specially if its daly up top.

Well f*ck a goat, who'd have thought it?

We've been wasting our energies over these past three pages. There's nothing wrong with the system except for the people in it. Someone just needs to tell the players to play better.

Brilliant.

... that formation also has the benefit of being arrow-shaped. Give the ball to Dillon, pull into formation, then wedge through the opposition team ye olde military style.

Agree with reekie on Robertson but last time we did 3-5-2 we almost got relegated ..several times.

I'd replace Flood with Douglas who at least can put a cross in. Unless Ross Smith is injured, I'd play him instead of Kenneth or Watson in defence.

I don't think Russell's a wide man-I'd switch him around with Daly and LDV depending on the opposition

but we do need Dillon back in defence.

Wish we could be more comfortable in the league table and give Hilson a try up front as a sub again
