Nothing strikes you as shitty about that? So long as he tells someone in an interview that he feels embarrassed and bad about it that makes it OK - in fact, it makes him "sound"?

Going back on his word isn't great, but if he had the balls to be open and contrite for it, then that does count for something. Not many people own up to behaving like a dick.
Expressing your own embarrassment and feeling bad several years after the event, when questioned about the incident by someone totally unconnected to it, does not strike me as particularly sound.

It's not even an apology - just a reflection on how it made him feel. He sounds like a prick to me.

Are you from a dystopian corporate future where everyone's worth is measured in Googlecreds and projections of economic viability?
Change "future" to "present" and you've nailed it.

Look it this way: he could have said "yes, I nearly joined Hamilton but things didn't work out," or something similarly anodyne. He didn't. Instead, like a weegie version George Washington, he confesses. That kind of unprompted candour fair warms my cockles, despite also boiling your piss.

I once dumped a girl I was seeing by just not phoning her. She went to a different High School so it wasn't hard to avoid her. I started seeing someone else in the meantime and one day my ex phoned and asked why I'd not called her for weeks. I was like, Jesus, take the hint..

Okay, Danny's me in this story and Billy Reid is Susanne.

Your cockles must settle at a very low temperature.

Something similar happened to me.

I met a foreign girl one summer, had a great time together, hung around the beach etc., promised we'd be together always, then never called her.

Imagine my surprise when it turned out she started at my High School that year, and was a right tight-ass!

F*ckin' nightmare.

It's an apology without using the words 'sorry' or 'apologise'.

What is it that makes him a prick - going back on his word, or not apologising for it? Or both? Or how he went back on his word?

Going back on his word in this case doesn't make me think he's a prick. He does seem a dense sort, though, based on other conduct.

Your story's really getting my cockles warm.

Once, my best friend slipped through a frozen pond and got trapped below the ice. I could've helped him but didn't because I'd just got a boxfresh pair of Air Max that I didn't want to get wet. So I ran home and left him, telling no one, and hid in my room for the rest of the day. Also, while hiding, I uploaded the video of him drowning onto Youtube, adding Yakety Sax as a soundtrack. It's had 300,000 hits so far.

And I suppose you think I'm the bad guy?

How would you feel if you were in the position of someone Swanny shat on in that manner? I dunno, agrees to paint your house, buy your car, marry your daughter or something.

Four years later you hear he feels a bit bad about it - you would think he was sound, yeah?

I never said he was 'sound', calm down, calm down. Just that going back on his word doesn't make him a prick. How he went back on his word might make him a prick.

He does good work for charity, helps old biddies across the road, rescues cats from trees, don't you know.*

*Could be true.

Depends if he got battered outside a Japanese restaurant for calling a disabled guy a "mong" when he asked for a photo.
