Obviously the BBC stats are always shite, natch, but I seriously don't remember Motherwell having another shot on or off target all afternoon. Not that that excuses our performance but it perhaps gives the lie to the suggestion that we were beaten by a good team. I think it was two poor teams, one with a perverse desire to self-harm. |

Pretty poor all round. Motherwell were set up well, good tactics and clear plan of attack. Good midfield, ours didn't really cope. All their threat was out wide, so was dissapointing that we didn't track for their first goal. Swanson I think was poor tracking back. Though he was poor all game really, hardly managed to keep possession never mind do much useful. Rest of midfield started off trying to pass well enough, but wasn't going anywhere. Not sure why Dow was taken off so early first half. Yes it wasn't working, but he seemed no worse than rest, and if he wasn't injured, sure confidence will be a bit lower now... Dalle Valla did same as usual, ok but not really excelling at anything. Daly was Daly, Rankin Rankin and Flood and Robertson weren't quite as good as they should be. Kenneth gave plenty ammunition to those critisising him, another sloppy mistake. Watson wasn't great either, Dixon at least attacked well a couple of times. Mackey Stevens looked a threat when came on - shame no-one previous decided to attack Hately. Ref seemed a bit new and learning, but nothing too bad, although few stange calls. Overall, concerning. It was another of those performances were nothing worked and a decent opposition managed to hit our weaknesses. |

we were absolutely hopeless all afternoon really- but particularly in midfield where Well cut off the supply to Swanson and none of the other 4 we had in midfield were creative enough. Worse- I'm sure many in the terraces would gladly volunteer to take turns in running around doing nothing in particular instead of Flood- who gets paid for it. Once swanson went off our tactics seemed to consist of pumping high balls towards .... who else but LDV and Gary M-S. Srobba again all over the place until he went off. Well didn't do anything exceptional at all. In fact they looked an ordinary side up against a pretty sh1tey side. You'd think Houston would have spotted the problem by now, but increasingly he looks like he's marking time until Levein gets his next job (post Scotland's qualification failure(s)) and makes that call. Pernis' malaise on kick outs continues with today's foopah only the culmination of his recent carelessness (and he looks about a stone overweight) I think the fans need the international break far more than the players do. Now I'll go and check Scott Allan's twitter account for any messages that have gone to him from Houston that say he won't be allowed to join the Hun until after they've gone bust and can't afford to pay him more than £3.68 an hour. Serve the f*cker right. |
