1 - Surely after reading one copy of the DR and listening to 5 minutes of Mr Traynor any half intelligent person will have concluded that they should never waste their time on this earth doing so again.

2 - BBC bias never?...when we sacked one of our many managers in the mid 00's it was the third item on the sports news behind two OF non-stories.

3 - Naebody has this nailed btw.

4 - Could we get away with playing "Taxman" over the tannoy next time against those lovely union jack waving types.

Wait wait wait wait. Let's wind this back.

Celtic said the headline was "inflammatory, highly irresponsible and quite simply offensive." It's not though. It's just a crap joke, as stated previously. If any other manager's head had been up there it would've been written off as a crap joke.

What makes it "inflammatory, irresponsible and offensive" is that Neil Lennon has previously received death threats. These threats, clearly, were from delusional maniacs. A sane person does not post bullets to the manager of a sports team he doesn't like. That's the behaviour of a mentalist.

But Celtic, by taking umbrage, are effectively legitimising this polarised and deeply delusional world view.

Think of it this way: I hate Jimmy Calderwood. Detest him. Even now, after all these years, just thinking about his burst-boil face slurring through a post-match interview is making me angry. However, I know I only hate him inside Planet Football, not in the real world. I've not the slightest desire to hurt or threaten Mr Calderwood any more than I'd hurt or threaten Dennis Hopper for being such a shit to Isabella Rossellini in Blue Velvet.

This, I believe, is how rational people think. Football is just not that important. It's a game, not an ideology.

But, if you're one of the Glasgows, nothing can be rational. How dare you suggest it's a game. There can be no jokes, no levity, no fun. The animosity between the clubs is so deep and fundamentally held that it can't even be mentioned, for fear of steeling the militant believers into further acts of terrorism. That, in effect, is what Celtic said. Their ban of the Record, and the accompanying statement, was clearly aimed at sending the message: "the media are deliberately provoking thems lot into terrorist acts against we Bhoyses." And, if that's not paranoid delusion, I don't know what is.

That's why I say we should be calling the delusion, not pandering to it. They're just football teams, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fantasist. Taking all this bullshit seriously only legitimises and perpetuates their Green-versus-Blue world view, which is the real problem.
It's really up to Celtic to decide how they feel about such an article.

I think that had the article included any manager from the SPL, his respective club would be issuing a statement saying how inappropriate it is. The paper is no longer dealing with factual account or prediction, it is wading into pretty unclear speculation based on hear-say. There is no way of suitably quantifying how many Rangers fans, players, playing staff or administrative staff hate Neil Lennon, or if such a thing could be carried out you'd be unlikely to find any sane, reasoned justification as to why those who do hate him hold that opinion.

In recent years Lennon has been assaulted on various occasions, sent bullets through the post along with death threats, and has been involved in a post-match altercation with the Rangers manager (the incidents we know of). I think it's understandable that Celtic are not welcoming of any "light-hearted jokes" in the current atmosphere surrounding Lennon, and this Daily Record article is an untactful attempt to create some controversy from a very current and ongoing problem.

The very nature of how perfunctory the comparison was shows that the Record aren't taking any precautions at a rather fragile and volatile time in relations between a very large proportion of ignorant, foolhardy morons from across Scotland and beyond. Your anecdotes refer to rational thinking; how could anyone ever take inspiration from such an article? But you're failing to realise that the aforementioned demographic are that prone to propaganda, and will draw wholly illogical conclusions from discussions presented in this manner.

Two things could and probably have happened from the publication of this article, one was to stamp the bellows into the flame of ignorance and the other was to inspire discussions such as this, as to whether or not the bellows has or has not been stamped. However, one thing is certain in that all parties would have benefitted had the article never been published in the first place. The Daily Record have conceded this and have issued an apology and retraction.

I read his post thinking
a) I don't believe it - I agree with every word
b) I don't believe Skeletor actually wrote a word of that

Whatever - great post/cut-and-paste job, Skel.

The real scandal in all this is that the aforementioned Hector the Inspector was actually pensioned off in 2001 for being "too white, too male and too middle aged to represent the Revenue."

The words mad, correctness, gone and political spring to mind. :fisted:

Yeah, it was a 95% tax rate back for those raking the cash in when moany George Harrison wrote that . Think on that next time you open your ignorant gob about huge tax bills, Adele. There's only so many cream cakes you can hoard before they go off anyway.
