Celtic have withdrawn cooperation with the Daily Record after their "Who's More Hated at Ibrox (is it Lennon or the Taxman?)" headline the day before Celtics are due to call at Ibrox.

Do you think Scotland's press treat everyone fairly? Even if you thing the OF get much better coverage and treatment, would you say the press favour one over the other?

I'm at a bar five and a half thousand miles away, entertaining myself with the Old Firm match until the Liverpool v Tottingham starts. Gary Hooper just scored and prompted some nasally-launched squealing from a few patrons.

Can the media please start with post-feral elocution education, please?

Theyd be a bit mad to cut out 1/2 their audience. Although most would buy any way to make sure they're being victimised and talked about.

Rangers money trouble mentioned few times, Lennon gets plenty not so good coverage . Guess it sells papers until they go bust when people eventually get the news elsewhere.

Don't understand. What's wrong with that headline?

This doesn't stop the Daily Record from writing scores of fictitious articles about Celtic F.C. using the moniker "an insider"(said), so it's business as usual at Meegia Central.

What they should do however is ban anybody from talking about Rangers or Celtic, and watch society stitch itself together seamlessly.

Well, Mr Semiotics, I'm surprised at you.

Firstly, the grammar is shit.

If we are to judge it by the level of whoopin' and hollerin' by the BBC Radio Scotland commentators then I think Rangers surely are going to win the league.

Sensible United fan on "your call (sic) " last night saying that even if you accept that the chip papers will pitch in with OTT OF coverage v. other clubs, the Beeb as a Public Service Broadcaster should be ensuring equal coverage of all SPL clubs.

...needless to say, Fatty Traynor cut him off. :smack:

I only heard a brief preamble to the 3pm Saturday matches on Radio Scotland, but I thought their handling of the Record/Celtics/Traynor thing was pathetic.

As a public service broadcaster, I expect better of them than just to say to Traynor at 10 to 3 "So, Jim - what are your thoughts on all this?", letting him speak uninterrupted for 5 minutes, then say basically "fair enough - thanks", state that the listeners can have their say on Your Call when, err, Jim Traynor is in charge, then head to kick-off.

The cowardice of not dealing with the subject properly was shameful.

What's Traynor done? I don't listen to Radio Scotland or buy the Record. To me, if it's one of the Ugly Sisters v An Other, then it's pro-Uglies (regardless of BBC, Sky, Record, Sun).

To answer your Q Eggman, Traynor sounded genuine affronted by the general accusation of bias by the media in favour of the OF and especially hurt by confronting the fact of the BBC's biased coverage. He was trying to justify it by the fact that the OF have worldwide appeal and have more fans- precisely why the BBC should be counter-balancing that.

In fact last night he sounded genuinely worried and irritated that administration (or the mere fact of increasing financial stringency for Rangers and Celtic) would create a level playing field amongst Scottish clubs and that some callers thought that would be a "good thing".

What subject? I'm not being cute, I genuinely don't understand what the problem is.

Couldn't really give a toss about airtime being given to The Glasgows either. The vast empty plains of dead air around the actual matches need to be filled with something, and if it's not them it'll only be some other vapid pish about European co-efficients or video evidence or summer football or whatever. None of it's pithy, inventive or engaging. You will never be troubled by an original thought. It's just there luxuriating across the schedule because this aural mulch attracts a slightly bigger audience than Take The Floor.

Traynor just proved his point by cutting him off before he got the chance to talk about somebody other than Rangers or Celtic.

The DR have now apologised.

Quote:

"As part of the build up to yesterday's Old Firm match the Daily record used a headline in Saturday's paper which contained the word 'hated'.

"This has caused dismay and anger and it was wrong

"We apologise for any offence this may have caused Neil Lennon and his family and also supporters.

"The Daily Record has a history of condemning intolerance in all forms.

"Our headline was a misjudgement and it was not intended to stoke up feelings ahead of yesterday's match."
