2 points lost yesterday. I was down the front yesterday so i had good view of 2 of United goals 2 of Hibs goals. Only my 3rd game this season at least we didn't lose though i am still waiting for my first win.

A good day out yesterday but we should have won.

Dearie me. I'm still at a loss to explain why we didn't collect three points there, never mind why we didn't win handsomely.
...
Phew! Glad I got that off my chest.
Oh really?

Anyway...

We were so much better than Hibs I was almost embarrassed for them. They had nothing in midfield and their defence was poor. No energy, no aggression, no obvious idea of what they should be doing. And yet they got a draw. They've got O'Connor and Griffiths, who will give any team uncomfortable moments, but they didn't have to exactly burst themselves to seek out opportunities they way we made it easy for them now and again.

I thought we dominated 80% of the game, with Rankin, Swanson and Gunning the most impressive. Daly had the usual mix of lumbering hopelessness and goals. I don't think there's anything else to say about him until he stops it with the goals. Ah! But there is! He had a good game today.

Watson struggled with everything. Russell got nothing going forward, but contained his man pretty well. The midfield did well - I disagree with reekie on the Scott Robertson question - he did OK.

I'd have liked to see Dow, or even LDV, KMB or GMS, as some of our guys tired and a bit of pace and attacking thrust could have exposed Hibs. Bouglas for Justle was a very dull like-for-like shrug of a substitution.

Overall a good performance against poor, poor opposition, spoiled by a few goofs and slack moments that Hibs punished us for very efficiently.
Well done! You saw my..um..deliberate contradiction...

But that's where the bafflement comes from.
We were, as you rightly say, so much better than an awful Hibs side
And yet we couldn't turn a 3-1 lead and a dominating performance into a win with 25 minutes to play. A little worrying.

And I have to take issue with the description of Daly as lumbering hopelessness and goals. Some of his touches were sublime, he held the ball up well and linked play excellently. He nutmegged players!
Bit harsh there, Whatsa.

I said he had a good game.

Agreed - he had some excellent touches and held it up pretty well. Mixed in with the lumbering hopelessness. And the goals. A good game for him.

I particularly enjoyed his efforts in the shooting warm-up before the match. Fair warmed the palms of the United support.

One of his attempts nearly decapitated me as I was settling down in my seat.

Not much to add. Hibs are pish, we should have won easily but for that implosion in the second half.

Finally getting round to watching this. Rankin and Swanson seem to be on each-other's wavelength. Flood and Robertson barely in each-other's postcode. Gunning okay. Dixon okay. Kenneth more about presence than ability, as usual, and Watson's promise remains largely hypothetical. Up front, Daly has been as good as you could realistically hope for, while Russell's been more about heat than light. All in all (after 60 minutes), passable mid-table fodder against a Hibs side that looks like we did under Billy Kirkwood.

Highlight so far has been the halftime interview with Guillaume Beuzelin. He seems a really sound chap.

Eta: third goal a stinker to lose. Robertson disappears entirely while Flood, Kenneth and Gunning all contrive to fall over their own feet. Agogo took the gift well though.

Was gonna post a long analysis then I saw Reekie's which is right on with what we've been like all season- along with Whats' summary of John Daly.

See second goal- Srobba's positioning is so wrong. He should have been charging the shot down -not Kenzo.

I wouldnt lay the blame with scotty R for the 2nd. It was similar to yakubu's against arsenal, in that the man at the back of the zone didnt win the ball, meaning a forward was able to get the ball on the deck and fire it across the goal, where its every chance of going in, via striker or defender. You can make your argument against zonal from these kinds of instances, but the fault is simply that the back post has to be protected more that it was, in both instances.

Glad to hear gunning sounds like he's playing well for us, but theres no way that pass should've got past him for the third. and full credit for o connor with his goal, taking it past dusan but keeping close enough control of it, and hitting home while off balance from a tight angle.

Swanson sounds like he's really producing the goods, lets hope he stays free from injury. hes good enough to be worth a cool 7 figure fee, and more than that hes a player that excites and makes you want to go to games

I found both overly critical.

The blaming of Baldie for not making changes seems revisionist. United were fading by the second goal but remained in control. He could hardly have anticipated that Robertson would flog two goals within 60 seconds and I'm not convinced the earlier inclusion of "Basher" (ffs) would've averted the floggings.

Now to Daly. Daly didn't outpace his marker or whip low crosses into the box. Neither did he marshall the midfield, bake the half-time pies or write any notable poetry. He's Daly. He's a big awkward lump who'll put his head where it's not wanted. He did that on Saturday, but also formed a useful triangle with Swanson and Rankin when the ball was on the floor. If you don't like this then you just don't like Daly, and if you don't like Daly then I don't like you. *Zing*

Exactly, it's mystifying when you watch a defender not even attempt a sliding tackle when their striker is getting his shot away. Ah well, "United defence defies logic" wouldn't make headlines.

As for Jon, fair play for an excellent diving header, the pinnacle of all goals that can be scored.

On reflection I was, perhaps, a little over critical but I was still smarting from the emotional expenditure.
Nevertheless, the lack of intervention after the double-counter still worries me.
Basher was readied to come on at 3-1. By the time he actually came on the entire complexion of the game had changed and yet there was no response.
And, although, it may seem revisionist here, if you'd been sat with me you'd know I'd been whining for substitutions for a long while before we got one.

Oh, forgot to add in my summary that Brian Winter's a fucking wankpellet.
