I'd assume we're still about 4 years away from seeing any of the affected players in the first team? Test will be if a good enough system has been put in place that allows for someone else to carry things on well enough to a degree that we at least get some impact.

We need the club to at least say this is going to happen. If they take the chance to kil the project, then that's poor.

The key for United will be whether they continue with his method after he leaves or use this as an excuse to chuck the towel in.
Careful you. Here's my impression of Stephen Thompson reading something like that:

"Grumble, grumble, grumble, moany gits, complaining at my running of this small company I don't want, I'll give them a piece of my mind.... Hold on, there's an idea..."

And yes, Thompson does say "grumble".

Someone catch that towel and try to do something useful with it...

We could tie a knot in it and use it to beat some sense into the cunt.*

Jeez, even the youth coaches are being tapped up at Utd now, how depressing. :fisted:

Real shame to see him go as his genuinely innovative methods could have seen us steal a march on our rivals, but as Ivan said if the standards of Scottish football as a whole can be improved, fans of the national team will benefit eventually.

Out of interest does anyone know was it his influence that has seen players like Scott Allan, Johnny Russell and Stuart Armstrong make the breakthrough or were they mostly developed before he arrived? Got the impression he was working with the younger age groups?

Ach, if Cathro really knows his shit then the further his influence is spread the better. The key for United will be whether they continue with his method after he leaves or use this as an excuse to chuck the towel in.
Hm.

Cathro seems a strong-willed and single-minded individual who's able to fight his chosen corner eloquently and with conviction. I'd considered him as the champion and defender of a long-term investment policy that may otherwise be considered an expensive luxury at a club focused on week-to-week survival.

I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if any towels were thrown immediately following his departure. But I'd be unsurprised (and disappointed) if his replacement was able to fight off a death by a thousand cuts.

This was bound to happen once Wotte was introduced with Levein as Scotland manager+, so no big surprise. Good luck to the lad, utter cuunt* that he is.

Where do we go from here is a good question. Current events do indeed feel like the beginning stages of post-being at the top of a large trampoline bounce, looking down at the springy things attached to the metal frame directly below.

*according to angry "He didnae gi meh son a geme!"/"He disnae ken whit hes daein!" fathers/pub-coaches/rumourmongerers on East.

I believe those are the springs.
