I have considered a live web feed but I think paid-up ArabTRUST members would quite rightly object to that as it means non-members can be in on proceedings.
I'm a paid up member and I have no objections to a live web feed, especially as I won't be coming myself.

Actually, if it's before the Rubber Johnnies game I maybe could make it... do you have a creche? ;)

It is indeed before the St.J game at 12 noon, Club 83:- http://arabtrust.co.uk/current/?489-arabtrust-agm-2011

I'm sure if you've got a kid with you it will be fine. arabTRUSt membership is free to all under the age of 16 so if they're a member, they'd be entitled to be there.

I think calling him an arse is a tad harsh. I disagree with his outlook on league reconstruction but he's a nice guy and genuinly cares about the Scottish game.

He is not taking a single penny to attend. ArabTRUST have got a good rapport with him and he was delighted to be asked along and happy to be help us out.

He's going to the St.Johnstone game after too.

I'd really urge you to reserve judgement until you've heard him out, he puts a very compelling argument across.
Obviously I meant an arse in the content of the job he's doing. Like if I said a player's rubbish, I would mean that in terms of football.

Good to know that he's not being paid to attend.

So since I won't be there, perhaps you can summarise the argument for me? Because what I've heard (which may not be all) is far from compelling.
It would be unfair of me to pre-judge his point of view as a lot has happened since I met him in January and I believe that some things may have changed since then.

This is the post from arabtrust.co.uk following our meeting at Hampden:- http://www.arabtrust.co.uk/pages/new/news/current/arabtrust-s-meeting-with-neil-doncaster.aspx

Doncaster is an arse, and he already knows the majority opinion on the biggest matter right now (the reorganisation fo the league). This attendance won't make a difference to that.

Is he being paid to attend?
Eggs, I refuse to listen to anything you say about the Trust until you cough up the £15 to join.

Doesn't Eggman stay in London? £15 won't even get you a coffee there.

Sorry, I don't understand this. Why is it not in the interests of arabtrust members that non-members get to witness the proceedings of their AGM?

Do you have something which you want to hide, or do you think that non-members will be enticed into joining by the prosaic appeal of an AGM? Or is this secrecy for the sake of secrecy?

There's no secrecy involved. ArabTRUST are the second biggest shareholder in Dundee United Football Club, this is our AGM. That makes paid-up ArabTRUST members shareholders too.

Non-BT shareholders wouldn't get in to BT's AGM, no company, organisation or whatever, let's non-shareholders into their AGM as far as I'm aware.

That's not to say that we'd wish to alienate any Arab, quite the opposite. But part of our AGM is our special guest every year, and if we get a few more people interested in our work by becoming members so that they can attend our AGM because they want to come and see the special guest, great.

The £15 that it costs to become an ArabTRUST member will probably end up being spent on United's youth system. Some of it may go on stamps and headed notepaper! But mostly it's spend on United's youth.

Many Arabs who've moved away join ArabTRUST, Erik Pedersen and Finn Dossing are two of them! Many come back to Dundee for the AGM every year to feel like they are still a part of United. They then go to watch United as we tend to hold the AGM on a home match day.

With Neil Doncaster as our special guest, I doubt it will be prosaic! An ArabTRUST AGM is never prosaic!

I don't wish to impugn your honesty so I'll assume you're just poorly informed.

I work for a not-for-profit company and am on the board of another. We're more than happy to have any interested parties attend our AGMs. This is perfectly common practice. I'm sure you're entitled to exclude non-members, but why would you want to?

You really think people are going to join for the pleasure of listening to Neil Doncaster drop platitudes at an AGM? That's just mental. Good luck though. I suppose.

Neil is trying to push through proposals that could change our game forever.

So actually, yes. I do think people want to come to the AGM to listen to him and then question him.

And if it means they also become an ArabTRUST member, donate £15 to the United youth system and are then a part of DUFC's second biggest shareholder, all the better.

I'm confused. What exactly is Arabtrust for?

I had a vague impression that it was to represent the interests of fans (though I can't think of any specific instances when this representation has been exercised). I also assumed (wrongly it appears) that Arabtrust was to represent fans' interests whether they were members or not.

A closed-door AGM following so closely after the (still opaque) Barile communications debacle reinforces my suspicion that Arabtrust has the same relationship as a class president has to a high school. The pupils get to have fun by forming committees and cabals, running elections and collecting "likes" for their Facebook page. But really, it's all just an ornate popularity contest where the ego massage is its own reward. The teachers are still in charge -- and quite rightly.

I'd like to have that suspicion proved wrong. Sadly, though, I'm barred from seeing the AGM.

Also, can I caution against referring to Arabtrust members in terms of being shareholders? It's inviting all sorts of trouble, both regulatory and practical.

For instance: just say Dundee United's equity was valued at £3m and Arabtrust has a 9% stake (why isn't this exact figure on the website, by the way?). That means the 9% would be worth £270k, so providing there were fewer than 18,000 members each one would, in effect, be in the money against the £15 fee.

However, it doesn't work like that, does it?

Much of what you'd like to know is on arabtrust.co.uk This is our FAQs:- http://arabtrust.co.uk/about/faqs.aspx

ArabTRUST's 3 main primary aims are:-

1 Fan Representation - We have a place on the Board to represent the supporters views

2 Assisting with & raising funds for the DUFC Youth Policy - Including our £8000 sponsorship of the ‘Take It And Play’ Programme

3 Assisting with & raising funds for football related community projects - Including Show Racism The Red Card

It's unfair to suggest that ArabTRUST is anything to do with ego. I myself have stated my interest in being the next Associate Director and it's nothing to do with egotism. I'm sure if you asked around, anybody who knows me would tell you that I'm dedicated to United and want what's best for the Club and the fans.

Having said that, I wouldn't have thought that I was particularly 'well kent', so you can allude to ego, I'll call ArabTRUST's ADship an important position within our football club that can be used as a fantastic opportunity for good.

It's absurd to claim that you are barred from the AGM, you're more than welcome to come along and be a part of it. In fact, it would be great to have somebody as opinionated and articulate as yourself there.

Yes, it's £15 for the privilege but I've never met one Arab who genuinely begrudges such a payment. Perhaps you're the first but I'd hope not.

C.B.

Why on Earth would ArabTRUST - The Dundee United Supporters Society - miss the St.Johnstone game??!! We all want to go to it, our members want to go to it, we'll be finished in plenty time to go to the game!
