Well, that's a rare bit of good news! Gives us another 12 month buffer before we cash in on him/he walks for free. :banjmp:

Well done Goodroy, sir :banshk:

Good work everyone involved. Just don't tell me there's a £400k buy-out clause.

I assumed this was quid pro quo - longer contract in return for reasonable release fee. I suppose maybe United hold more cards than normal as there's no guarantee he won't spend the majority of the contract detained at her Majesty's Pleasure, so maybe we're looking at the removal of some gross misconduct clauses that could've seen him sacked if jailed.

Pure speculation on my part, but it is fishy.

Nevertheless, at face value it's bloody good and unexpected news. Why can't Conway and Buaben do the same?

And if they're not going to sign then they're dead to me and can do what they want. Rape, murder, genocide - who cares?

Excellent news and a bit of a surprise to be honest, perhaps the club officials have been reading the board..... ;)

This is probably the first concrete evidence that the gravy train is slowing down in England, meanwhile, which may mean we get to keep the odd talented young player a little longer than we can right now: or just mean that we get less for them when they go....

Will be intersting to see where our out of contract players end up. Most poor championship sides likley still outbid us by a long way. It's all relative, so if we're reducing too, then I'm not sure that we will hold on any longer. But will get less if they go either way....

Of course this is excellent news. The disadvantages of being a relatively poor club are directly proportionate to the financial strength of your rivals. Indeed, the less money coming into the game at all levels the better, within reason. It's not like United are poor in an absolute sense, the players will still be earning substantially more playing football than they would get working in a proper job.

Bear in mind, too, that even 'poor' Championship (Crystal Palace  , Sheffield United) and even some League One clubs (Sheffield Wednesday) have bigger stadia, turnover and prestige - mostly due to being in the English leagues - than Scottish clubs apart from the Bigot Bros. The likes of Brighton, a club which was so skint a few years ago they 'advertised' it on their shirts, are building new homes and are on the up and up. I'd love to know how much Fran is on there. :fisted:
