I think it suggests that you're handing me something other than chocolate.

I remain unconvinced on the double negative (not that you should particularly care either way, of course).
Ah...

A good illustration of how we use language in different ways.

Personally I think 5th would be a fantastic achievement when we consider the shear number of injuries United have had plus the stop start nature of the season meaning the team will have to play x number of games in a very short period. Anything above 5th will icing on the cake as will a return to Hampden on a certain day in May.
Hang on, you think overtaking a very average Motherwell side over whom we have three games in hand would be a fantastic achievement? Every team gets injuries and others, like Motherwell, have had to make do with much greater hardships (like losing their manager and best player midseason) than us.

We should be vying with Hearts for third. Credit to Hearts that they've gone on such a great run but they're no better than us and we should have put up more of a fight. I'd say this season is an opportunity missed and one which we're unlikely to get again any time soon.

Mind, I'm feeling rather jaundiced about the whole philosophy of the club right now.
Ivan I've yet to be convinced that we are playing anywhere near our full potential to be challenging Hearts.

No, I agree. I'm sure that we could stagger into fifth place without playing at anywhere near our full potential but I can't see how that would be an admirable achievement. You dig?

It'd be admirable from current position, if not from start of season perspective . Which for me is still good enough .

We won't do that well in grand scheme of things this year, but so long as we end it well, well be in decent shape in the end . We need the players to fight fir the next position, be it 3rd or 6th.

No it wouldn't, we're three points behind with three games in hand. Pro rata (oh shut up at the back there!), we're already in fifth.

You been in touch with Ian Blair? You could solve all his fixtures headaches .

When we get the points. Well have achieved something . until then, we need to keep the team focussed.

Well that's certainly an interesting perspective. Do you think Motherwell would swap their position with ours?

Presumably if our first game of the season had been postponed we'd have been certainties for relegation after the very first weekend.

Stop me if you think I'm misrepresenting your arithmetic.

Sure they wouldn't , but not like we are certaint to be better so why pretend ? It doesnt have any benefits. When rangers had alll those games in hand couple yeas back, it meant nothing and they lost.

As for your other point, clearly not as you know ...

Sorry, I don't know where to go with this now. I assume you've looked at the table and know that we are on 34 points from 25 games, an average of 1.34 points per game (having played 10 at home and 15 away). Motherwell, by contrast have 37 points from 28 games, an average of 1.32 points per game (having played 15 at home and 13 away). Extrapolating current positions to the end of the season would see us finish on 52 points and Motherwell on 51, so we're already doing better than them. That doesn't take account of the fact that they've played 5 more home games than us already.

The analysis seems quite straightforward to me. We have achieved more points per game than Motherwell already having played 1/3 fewer home games. That's what my analysis is based on. On what criteria are you judging that Motherwell have done better than we/ are in a more favourable position than we are?
