Rangers put out Sporting Lisbon; why is it so hard to be pleased for them?

Isn’t it good for the Scottish European quotient that the current buns got through? Although it sticks in the throat to say it, well done Rangers :hit:

I'm actually annoyed "we" have regained a second Champs League place in a couple of seasons. Let's face it, right now it's only going to be the OF who claim that second place. The money available for participating in that competition is so vast that it unbalances our domestic league financially - even more than it already is. Without the CL income from the past couple of seasons, the Buns may well have been in actual administration (or worse) rather than the virtual administration of the past year or so.

The CL income also causes the OF problems, as they are tempted to budget for qualification, and when they miss out it knocks a massive hole in their budget.

That was my thinking. Some spillover to the mini-huns of Edinburgh and (some might say) Dundee?

And for any of you with lingering doubts over their supporters...

Thats scary... how did you "stumble" across that one Findus...

Totally agree. I'd love Barry Ferguson to be our manager in the future. The guy hates the scum. He'd be able to motivate the guys imo.

Hates them so much, he married one. Preumably so he could hate them from the moment he wakes in the morning til he goes to sleep at night.

That thread is brilliant, I'm sure there'd be an equivalent on a Celtic forum somewhere, demanding every starting player thrives on their team's religion. A religion which barely any of them practise.

Yeah, with the way things stand with the league setup, we do rely on the Fortunate Sons to throw a few punches once in a while. I'll echo the sentiment earlier that I would like to say congratulations on a good Scottish success, but then remember the fans.

Ah, but Celtic have never been an exclusively Catholic or Irish club. Just one of the reasons why, for all the problems with both sides of the OF, Celtic are not as bad. When we had wee Irish guys sitting next to us as they won the league at Tannadice there was no problem at all. Wasn't quite the same as the usual Hun takeover of the home end.

I'd like to agree with the above. However, I can't. f*ck them, the more first round exits in Lithuania the better for me.

Suppose it's swings and roundabouts whatsthat, I agree that the the extra CL spot is very likely going to be secured by one of the infirm but on the upside the 2nd placed team will most likely have to beat somebody like Spurs, Valencia or Roma to qualify for the league stage and it means we get 5 european places in total (3 in the Europa League) rather than the 4 we'll get next season.

For the stattos out there wikipedia has an up to date table - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient#Association_coefficient_.28.22League_coefficient.22.29

An extra Uefa Cup place is welcome, of course. The chance of £10m+ going to the OF is much to be avoided. However, isn't there a system where if both qualified for the group stage, they would split the same pot of money that only one of them would have got if the other had failed hilariously in Lithuania?

I'm pleased Chippy brought up the Lithuania failure, as not only was it a happy footballing memory, but it was one of the few times I made a good win at the bookie's! Much rejoicing chez Onyourback that evening, let me tell you.
