Shatkar won't be pushovers, they're playing well.

Are those ties in order of legs? If so:

Real, Man U, Barca, Inter. That is, of the 4 that play away from home first, I reckon only Man U are going to be able to hold out against the required away goal(s) at home in the second leg.

I remember Wee Jum always prefered having the 2nd leg at Tannadice, the thinking being "Get it back to ours where we know what needs to be done". Such a considerable advantage playing away in the 2nd leg these days, though.

Fancy Chelsea for some reason at the moment. Wouldn't put it past Spurs to get close to a shock either. This years Leeds.

I had the same wee feeling at first, but then had a think about it - 1st leg at the Bernabue Bernabu Bernna in Madrid, I can't see Spurs scoring. 2nd leg in Landan, I can't see Real not scoring. Still, would be an interesting shock.

Got a sneaky feeling that Real could go all the way. I know they're not exactly dark horses but they're not being talked up that much despite having arguably the best Manager in the game, a defence that features Casillas, Ramos and Carvalho, two of the best central midfielders in the game in Alonso and Khedira and attacking players like Ronaldo, Ozil and Di Maria.

Mourinho's been complaining about wanting to sign a forward all season but when on form Benzema and Adebayor aren't the worst options, oh and Kaka can't even get in the team at the moment...

All that considered, given what they say about football not being played on paper bet everything you've got on Barcelona then....

See that my plucky outsiders Real didn't do too badly last night.... ;)

(not that I'll be supporting them against Barca of course)

I thought the best thing about the game last night was Ray Wilkins.
His ignorant jingoism was such a surprise that I had to turn down the sound.
I will say that he was pushing it for even me last night...

Enjoyable game though.

Wonder if anyone had money on red card so quick for Crouch...

STAY ON YOUR FEET!!!!!!!!

I must admit Jamie Redknapp's comment after the game that "I know my dad quite well" was amusing. Almost as amusing as the game itself. Best league in the world my arse.

Jesus, Wilkins was at it again last night! Unbearable. It's like since Gray's gone, Sky's said "Ray, you could be quids in here, but you'll need to boost the jingoism a bit. All that cosmopolitan, Europhile shit you did at Channel 4 needs to stop", and Ray has responded with eagerness.

Maybe if Crouch had been booked for any of his 8 fouls against Milan in the second leg (or the however many it was in the first leg), he'd have realised that just because he's a lummox, that doesn't entitle him to foul any time he likes.

Luck runs out eventually, and Spurs' luck ran out last night. They had about two shots on target in their three knockout games. 'Attacking Spurs', my arse.

Spurs have scored fewer goals in the Premier League than Everton, who have a reputation for being rather pragmatic and lacking in strikers. Funny how things turn out.

Just about everything associated with Harry Redknapp is total bollocks. His great man-management skills being just the most topical with Lennon saying he would not be made a scapegoat and had been ill for days rather than being taken ill a minute before kick-off.

I thought that the Man U Chelsea game was pretty good. Not the best performances from a few people, mainly strikers Drogba, Torres and Hernandez, but overall a decent number of chances in a close game that had a few incidents. And another penalty decision that worked in Man U's favour.

Have to wonder what the point of the assistant to the assisnat refereess are on the goal line if they don't even make clear calls right in front of them.

I thought the Chelsea match was a total turdfest. Low on any real quality. Like most of the CL games involving Premier League sides, the teams seemed primarily concerned with stopping the opposition playing.

Essien was poor, Bosingwa awful (selling himself for the goal, and his crossing when it good positions was shocking), and Torres dreadful. Lampard was anonymous, and Zhirkov just...nothing. Only Drogba seemed to offer much in the way of progressive play.

Man United just looked to keep their shape, and hope to get the away goal. For the whole of the second half, they just closed up shop. They had about two shots on target in the whole match, while Chelsea had six.

Apart from Torres's header, van der Sar had almost nothing to do. Chelsea were very predictable. Evra did well to save it off the line, and van der Sar to make the save from Torres, and Chelsea should've got a penalty as well, but apart from that, I found it seriously lacking in any play that can be described as the top tier of European competition.

Whoever gets through this half of the draw will need a shitload of luck to beat Barca or Real in the final.

I think I'd prefer it to Barcelona running riot for the 20th time this season.

There wasn't much attacking quality (except the goal obviously), but I still found it entertaining.

Man U have done the boring away performances for ages now, but it's been largely sucessful.

Won't write off Chelsea, but can't agree can't see either winning it.
