STV says he's been charged with rape.
Dear me...

Well, it's certainly raised his public profile. The UK must be loving the juxtaposition of the words "rape" and "Goodwillie" in the same headline.

OMG! IV JUST REELIZED HIS NAMES LIKE COCK!!! LMAO!!!111!1!! HEZ "BADWILLIE" MORE LIKE!!!! LOOOOLROFLROFLFOL !!!!!111111!!!!1!!!!!!ONEONEONE.

So there's nothing we can say about this other than the obvious.

1: he's innocent until proven guilty. That distinction is unlikely to be resolved for some time.
2: he's unsaleable unless found innocent. That distinction is unlikely to be resolved for some time.

It's wrong, under these grave and deeply dispiriting circumstances, to be pissed off that another demonstration (at best) of the boy's apparent lack of guile has cost the club ~£1.5m. But irritation is what I'm feeling at the moment.

My primary feeling is of inevitability. Something like this was always on the cards.

With Kovacevic's speeding thing out there too, we could be getting a reputation for raising a bunch of jailbirds.

What lack of guile would that be?

I don't know the circumstances behind the charge, apart from him being at a New Year's party with David Robertson.

Sadly, we'll almost certainly never know the truth of the allegation (unless Goodwillie or the complainant confess). The fact that he wasn't interviewed until 10 days after the alleged offence would suggest that the complaint wasn't made immediately and therefore useful physical evidence is unlikely. That leaves witness evidence as the only possible corroboration, which again is unlikely in the event of an alleged sexual offence. Goodwillie will surely have had the benefit of good legal advice, which is probably to say nothing.

Sad, because if he's innocent the stain of the allegation is likely to linger; if he's guilty then the poor lassie is unlikely to see him punished.

Procurator Fiscal seems to think there's enough there to charge him though, which means it's gone further than the huge majority of rape allegations.

I don't think that's right. The police have charged him, there's been no decision by the crown office (rather than the PF) on whether or not to prosecute.

Correct me if I am wrong. I thought the police in Scotland forwarded info to the PFs office and it is the PF who decides if there is enough evidence to charge or not to charge not the police

By "lack of guile" I mean he's a f*cking idiot. This is self-evident no matter the circumstances of his current predicament, which I've no desire or inclination to speculate about.

Not exactly. The Police decide on the initial charge and then forward the case to the PF or the Crown Office (depending on the nature or severity of the alleged offence) to decide whether there is enough evidence to proceed with a prosecution.

Sorry, my knowledge of criminal procedures in Scotland is based entirely on what I could glean from Ross Harper adverts during Scotland Today.

I will revise therefore to 'the police have charged him and the case has been forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal (or Crown Office), which is further then the majority of rape allegations get'.
